Kageyama is another main character in ‘Haikyuu!!.‘ He was introduced in the first episode itself when Hianata’s junior high team played against him. He plays the setter position and is somewhat of a genius in volleyball. He is both talented and hardworking and is a genius not only in the setter position but is a genius for overall volleyball.

This particular aspect makes him both admirable and terrifying. Kageyama is also hard-headed and stubborn. He is very respectful of his seniors but his hard-headedness makes him come off as rude and disrespectful but that is not true. He mostly does not care about things that aren’t volleyball and does not talk to many people.

In the start, Kageyama and Hinata did not get along with each other. Hinata could not hit any of Kageyama’s tosses which made him mad. After practicing together and working out a few kinks in their relationship, they became the hidden weapon of Karasuno High school.

Kageyama is called King of The court by his former teammates at Kitagawa Daiichi middle school. Kageyama seems like he thinks he is better than everybody else due to his natural talent and skill in volleyball. That however is not true. He is the type to practice daily for hours on end and always focuses on improving himself. The only downside is that he tends to be focused on the game that he forgets that volleyball is a team sport and he cannot play it alone.

During a match in his middle school, his team was on the ropes and Kageyama was desperate for victory. As a result, he started finding ways to escape the opponent’s defense with his sets. He however did not think about his teammates and his tosses became more demanding and faster. He yelled at his teammates when they missed a shot and that made them extremely mad.

His teammates started calling him ‘King of the court’ as he did not care about his teammates and like a tyrant king, only focused on himself. This nickname also set him apart from his teammates as the king does not belong with the ‘peasants’

As a result of his teammates’ resentment towards him, they did not want to hit his sets no matter how good they were. In a match, when he tossed the ball, none of his teammates came to hit and the ball dropped to the ground. This is how Kageyama got his nickname.

This nickname always brought bad memories to Kageyama and he was mocked by his former teammates even when they got into high school. Kageyama is one of the most popular and important characters in Haikyuu!!
