Why Is Ryomen Sukuna So Obssessed With Fushiguro Megumi In ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’?

‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ took the anime world by storm with its release. The way the story is unfolded till now has kept the viewers hooked on it. For those who can’t wait for the anime’s new season release, are already following the manga and have gone quite far on it, that’s how much impact this anime has stirred in the past year.

Apart from the two main characters, Itadori Yuji and Gojo Satoru, the plot line focused on the relationship between Fushiguro Megumi, the second main protagonist, and the antagonist Ryomen Sukuna. Their interactions have left the fans in curious mode, as it’s been both mysterious and exciting to see the plot development.

While some fans did wish to establish a romantic connection between Megumi and Sukuna, they were dead wrong in that regard. Sukuna has no sentiments or emotions whatsoever. If he does anything then it’s somewhat related to his own benefit. Till now, he has never shown interest in any other things or fights, except for Megumi.

Naturally, the fan’s head turned around when the interactions happened. In one scene, Sukuna states how he doesn’t care about what happens to others (including Yuji) except for Megumi. This sentence did make a misleading remark, but the thoughts behind it weren’t all rosy and flowery.

From day one of their introduction in ‘Jujutsu Kaisen‘, Sukuna has always been interested in Megumi’s shadow technique. Megumi Ten Shadow Technique sparked a thought in Sukuna, i.e, to get himself a new body. Inhabiting Yuji was a big mistake for Sukuna as he is not in control of his mind. Yuji can easily switch places and contain Sukuna with no backlashes as of now.

That was also the sole goal of Gojo and the Sorcerers community. They wanted Yuji to gulp down all of Sukuna’s 20 fingers, contain him, and with Yuji’s death, Sukuna will also be buried alive. For Sukuna this is a death sentence. He was overconfident in seizing Itadori’s body and didn’t think of a plan B. Basically, he dug his own grave and is now trapped inside.

    Megumi’s Ten Shadow Technique

Megumi comes to play an important role in this ordeal. His technique allows him to store ten of his Shikigami and use them against fighting curses. If one of his Shikigami dies, its power is evenly distributed among the rest, making the others formidable. Sukuna thought of killing each one of his Shikigami and taking control over the last.

This way, he’ll gain a new body, which he’s in control of, and get free from Megumi. Sukuna is the strongest character in the Jujutsu Kaisen world, along with Gojo. Imagine what havoc he’ll call upon if he gets free and even more powerful after consuming Megumi’s familiars.

Though there are quite a lot of theories in this regard, this one feels like the most appropriate one. After all, in every instance till now, we have seen how Sukuna only and only thinks of himself. He was mad when Mahito forced himself into his domain, which resulted in Mahito getting his butt kicked and injured. In future episodes, there may be more instances of Sukuna and Megumi where we’ll learn of the former’s actual motive.
