Is ‘Black Butler: Book of Atlantic’ Based On The ‘Titanic’?

Black Butler: Book of Atlantic takes you on a journey to revisit the Titanic but in an anime form mixed with unprecedented events and evil brewing underneath its shadow.

‘Black Butler: Book of Atlantic’ reintroduces you to the sinking of the Titanic mystery but with a spooky twist in it. There’s no Rose or Jack here in the story, but a bunch of supernatural weirdos fighting with each other, ultimately causing the ship to sink.

Who knows maybe that’s what happened to the original Titanic. Just kidding! But the story actions and plot structure will make you rethink your notions about the Titanic movie. The original series of the Black Butler is spooky enough, but they decided to incorporate the fabulous Titanic duplicate in the anime movie, making it a bone-chilling experience for viewers.

    Summary Of Black Butler

The Black Butler series follows the journey of the young Ciel Phantomhive who becomes the overlord of the underworld and rules England. He is highly trusted by the Queen and is often given tasks that include smuggling, drug and child trafficking, mysterious disappearances and deaths, etc.

It’s their family business to take on dirty work and keep the underworld dealing in control. After Ciel’s parent gets murdered, he takes on the role of the head of the house accompanied by his contracted demon Sebastian Michaelis. Contracts with demons often come with a price and this duo is exactly the same.

The interactions, bloody fight scenes, torture, and mystery make the anime one of the best. Apart from them, we have a guy named Snake, who just like his name, can talk and manipulate a large number of snakes (snakes are his friends), and Elizabeth (Ciel’s fiancee) who joins Ciel on his journey on the ship. But they are not the only ones!

The ship also welcomes grim reapers and mad scientists. There’s a huge lovable plot twist, as one of the secondary characters from the main series becomes the main antagonist of the movie ‘Book of Atlantic’. He, for just entertainment, manipulates a doctor into doing human experiments stating that the dead can come back to life.

Dead body trafficking takes place at Ciel’s dock (which is under his control) and he embarks on a journey to solve the mystery. Though at first hesitant to take on the mission, he’s shocked to learn that Elizabeth and her family are onboard the ship. Now it makes more sense for him to jump in the mission. Later the group meets the Queen’s henchmen abroad on the ship, also with two grim reapers who have come to investigate the matter of dead people.

Black Butler: Book of Atlantic incorporates identical incidents to Titanic

The RMS Titanic and Black Butler’s Luxury Liner – Campania are similar in appearance. The anime holds on to the luxury part of the ship design (both inside and out while drawing different places for people based on their wealth. One can feel the similar vibe it gives to the original movie.

Just like the protagonist of the movie who jumps late on the ship, we find Ronald Knox scurrying his way through to the ship as it nearly starts to sail. The dock is drawn in accordance with its original older brother. The ship is further divided into two categories – one for wealthy people (Ciel and his group), and one for the common people (Knox and the common people).

In the evening there’s a similar vibe on the dance floor, and you can see Knox flirting away with a girl at the bar. Completely different from what’s going above the ship, this common area bursts with life. Unfortunately, events start to unfold at midnight when the mysterious scientist’s group reveals themselves proudly with their experiments.

Their experiments basically comprise zombies. They turned dead humans into zombies, hordes on them, and all are on board the ship. Things go out of control even with Ciel, Sebastian, Knox, and Grell Sutcliff trying to deal with the zombies, and save as many people as they can.

There’s the iconic part where the ship crashes into the ice and starts falling apart. Though that happens in accordance with the ongoing mayhem, it’ll make you think, even for a split second, if that was what happened in the original story as well.

In the end, few survivors wait for rescue in small boats as the group ‘handles’ the matter. There’s a lot of gore element, with blood baths, bitings, magic, and way too-cringey weapons clashing against one another. The movie’s worth a shot.

Plus it also took into account, keeping the movie in accordance with the original anime series, and another movie ‘The Book of Circus’. It has reference links to both of them, making it easier for the viewers to connect it all along.
