Rumors are swirling online that actress Katey Sagal has been cast in an unknown role for Netflix‘s upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular manga and anime series ‘One Piece‘.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, fans are speculating that Sagal may have been cast as Dr. Kureha, the eccentric doctor who treats the Straw Hat Pirates on the winter island of Drum Kingdom.

Katey Sagal Could Be An Asset For ‘One Piece’
If cast as Dr. Kureha, Sagal would bring extensive voice acting experience to the role. Some of her most notable voice roles include portraying Turanga Leela on the long-running animated series ‘Futurama‘. She provided the voice of Leela for Futurama including the original run, films, and revival series.
“‘Old Scientist’ could potentially signal Dr. Kureha and Sagal’s extensive resume in both live-action and voice over roles would make her a strong candidate,” wrote one fan commenting on the rumors on X. Her experience bringing animated characters to life through her voice would serve her well if tasked with playing the eccentric Dr. Kureha.

Proven Comic Timing in Live-Action
In addition to voice acting, Sagal has also proven her impressive comedic timing through numerous live-action roles over the decades. She is likely best known for playing the legendary character of Peggy Bundy on ‘Married… with Children‘ during the shows entire decade-long run. More recently she has starred as Gemma on the hit FX series ‘Sons of Anarchy‘.
“Sagal has the experience and comedic chops to handle someone like Dr. Kureha” said another fan commenting on the potential casting. Of course, until anything is confirmed, this remains just speculation based on some rumored leaks, but fans are excited at the prospect.
