MyAnimeList Hacked To Promote One Particular Anime

MyAnimeList is one platform that almost every anime fan is aware of. Regardless of whether they use it, they have most definitely heard of it. The rating of the website is considered quite reliable and true and fans value the website. This makes it one of the most trustworthy websites for the entire anime community. However, something shocking took place on the website. 

The website was recently shut down for maintenance due to someone hacking the website. Fans were confused and some were outraged. Here is why the website was closed for maintenance.

Why Was The Site Closed?

MyAnimeList was closed recently due to some maintenance. The maintenance occurred because an individual hacked the website and made some changes to the site. The individual did this because they wanted to promote one single anime which is ‘Serial Experiments Lain’ on the site. The hacker changed the website and all the anime titles were replaced with Let’s all love Lain. 

In addition to rewriting every single anime title, the hacker overwrote many other codes as well. Due to this overwriting, only ‘Serial Experiments Lain’ was given the rating of very good, great, or masterpiece which is the highest rating the site gives to any anime. No other anime possessed any such rating after the hacking. 

The site released an official message stating that they were hacked by a malicious individual and that they are working on restoring the site as quickly as possible. They also assured the users that their personal information was not leaked. This is why the very popular site, MyAnimeList was closed down for maintenance.
