Gon and Killua from ‘Hunter X Hunter’ are two of the most popular characters in the anime world. Their bond and friendship are even more popular. According to many viewers, their friendship is considered one of the best in the world. However, according to some fans, whilst Killua is an amazing friend to Gon, the latter doesn’t seem to return the same sentiment.

Who Are Gon And Killua?
Gon is the protagonist of the series. He is the son of Ging Freeccs who is one of the best hunters in the anime. Appearance-wise, Gon has spiky black hair and brown eyes. Personality-wise, he is very kind and hates injustice. He is also not very smart academically, but when the situation calls for it, he can come up with some pretty great solutions. He lived his whole life on a small island surrounded by trees and forests and is thus very agile and active.
Killua Zoldyck is the third son of Silva Zoldyck. The Zoldyck family is infamous and feared in the anime for being a family of assassins. He has silver hair and blue eyes. Killua was trained to be an assassin from childhood. He is exceptionally smart and is more calculative than irrational as opposed to Gon. Since he trained his entire life, Killua is very good in various martial arts, is very agile, and is an experienced fighter.
Was Gon A Bad Friend To Killua?
The answer to this question would be no. Whilst it is true that during the Chimera ant arc, Gon was selfish, it doesn’t entail that he is a bad friend. Gon broke Illumi’s arm during the Hunter exam because he got mad on Killua’s behalf. When Killua had to go back to his family after the hunter examination arc, Gon all the way there knowing that he may be killed, to save his friend.
Gon invited Killua to stay with him after the Heavens’ arena arc because Killua had nothing else planned for himself. This entails that Gon wanted Killua in his life. Similar to Killua, Gon never had friends that were the same age as him. Due to this, when he became friends with Killua, he genuinely cherished him. Although his behavior in the Chimera ant arc was very rude and selfish. Gon treated Killua more like a teammate than a friend. He didn’t even notice when Killua got depressed or when he stopped behaving like himself.
After Killua healed Gon with Alluka’s help, Gon was grateful to both of them. All friendships have their ups and downs, and one cannot ignore someone’s good deeds because of their bad ones. Therefore, whilst Gon behaved terribly towards the end, he was never a bad friend to Killua.
