Oda has far surpassed all anime genres with his greatest creation “One Piece”. It is a unique anime that differentiates its own class through the art style, story plot, and the power to bring in emotions for animals and even objects. The Straw Hats crew form their very first alliance on the Going Merry.
Usopp was the master painter who drew the Straw Hat and hung it on top of their ship. Going Merry, the Straw Hats’ first ship has been with the viewers since the very beginning of the whole story. She has been a great joy and a true companion of the Straw Hats who didn’t hesitate to risk her own life to save them.

What is a Klabautermann?
Klabautermann is a water spirit who dwells on ships that are deeply cared for. Luffy and his crew loved Going Merry very much and took care of her when things were rough. They treated her as a friend and were in turn helped by the ship’s spirit. Kalbautermann is simply the reincarnation of the ship’s spirit.
It is said in legends that the Kalbautermann wears a raincoat, and a pair of boots, and holds a hammer in their hands. They often come to rescue sailors from danger by running around the ship and making weird noises. They even help repair ships if any part is in danger, without letting others know.
Even in the series, we have seen Merry repairing the ship at Skypiea, and later in Water 7, she asked for help from Iceberg. When the crew got trapped by the Marines in Enies Lobby arc, Merry came in to rescue the crew and set sail in the free ocean.

Was There Any Relationship Between Going Merry And Thousand Sunny?
After the Straw Hats put Going Merry to rest at the end of the Enies Lobby Arc, the crew decided to go and rest at Water 7 for the time being. Meanwhile, Franky, Iceberg, and the rest of the shipwrights created a new ship with modern equipment for Luffy and the rest. The ship was named Thousand Sunny.
Though the ship was bigger, better, and equipped with the latest technology, it was undoubtedly the best version of Going Merry. What the fans loved the most was how Franky incorporated Going Merry’s brave and kind soul into the Thousand Sunny.
He took Merry’s headpiece and attached it to a motor boat which was later named as Mini-Merry. Franky declared that Thousand Sunny can do all sorts of things, better than their previous ship did, but Merry’s soul will now be passed on and live with Sunny, continuing their journey together.
