Studio Ghibli is known for producing some of the finest animated films in the history of anime. ‘Princess Mononoke’ is one of those amazing films. Released in 1997, the film is set in the Muromachi period and portrays and deals with some environmental issues. This film garnered a lot of viewership and is one of the most popular anime films to exist.

What Is Princess Mononoke?
As mentioned above, ‘Princess Mononoke’ was released in 1997 by Studio Ghibli and it deals with some environmental issues. The film brings to light the deforestation issue and how it affects the animals along with some other crucial issues. The plot of the film is as follows.
Ashitaka is an Emishi prince and he manages to kill a boar that killed many of his people. However, the boar grazes him and curses him before getting killed. The curse grants Ashitaka amazing power but it also causes pain. To find a cure, he travels to a forest in the west.
There he finds a town that was built by cutting down the forest and comes to know that the villagers are planning on cutting more of the forest to better their lands. He also finds a girl named San who was raised by wolves and hates humankind. The two of them together try to protect the forest and its spirits. The movie follows their journey in doing so.
Who Did San End Up With?
San, as mentioned above, is one of the main characters in ‘Princess Mononoke’. San’s parents abandoned her and wolves raised her. She hates humans because of their fickle nature and because they harm the forest.
The only exception to this case is Ashitaka and even he had to earn her trust. San didn’t trust or like Ashitaka in the beginning, but their bond grew with time and she started to like him. Ashitaka considered San to be beautiful and they developed feelings toward one another. Unfortunately, they didn’t end up together at the end of the film.
In the end, Ashitaka decided to stay in the town to try and build it in a better manner, but he promised to visit San in the forest. Therefore at the end of the film, San didn’t end up with anyone and returned to her forest.
