The anime series ‘Haikyuu!!’ is a huge hit in the sports category. The same-named manga was also authored by Haruichi Furudate. After eight years, in 2020, the manga came to an end. After two years, in 2014, the immensely popular manga got its anime adaptation. There have been four seasons of Haikyuu!! thus far, and the fans want more.
Hinata Shoyo, the main character of the anime, is a young boy who aspires to play volleyball. The main drawback is Hinata’s short stature. He enrolls in Karasuno High School, where his volleyball idol also competed, and applies. He is successful in earning a spot as the team’s starting player, and his adventures start there.
Who Is Sakusa Kiyoomi?
Sakusa Kiyoomi was the spiker in his high school team, Itachiyama institute. He was also one of the top three high school spikers in Japan, along with Ushijima and Kiryu. Sakusa was mentioned from the first season onwards but he was officially first shown in the fourth season when Kageyama goes to the All-Japan Youth Training Camp.
Sakusa has black wavy hair and black eyes. He parts his hair to the side and he has two moles on his forehead. Sakusa is also a huge germaphobe and dislikes crowds or crowded spaces. He believes he will get infections if he stays in a crowded place.
Sakusa used to be a little lean in high school, but during the Schweiden versus Black Jackals match, it was noticed that he had bulked up a little. Personality wise Sakusa appears to be calm and collected but that is not the case. He is extremely competitive and proud of himself. He doesn’t react much during a match, but when he finds someone who is a threat or someone who he finds intriguing, he focuses his full attention on them. He is a very cautious player and he claims to be a realist.
What Was His Role In ‘Haikyuu!!’?
Whilst Sakusa was shown as one of the most powerful spikers in Japan, he was not given much screen time. The viewers were only able to see Sakusa in the fourth season in the training camp. Even there Sakusa’s true potential and skills could not be witnessed.
Sakusa’s nationals were not shown either. It was not until Hinata joined the Black Jackals that Sakusa got attention. Sakusa was shown to have a very flexible wrist which made his spikes all the more powerful. In addition to being a phenomenal spiker, he is also good at receiving. This made it easier for the Jackals to receive Ushijima’s spikes. He played a crucial role in the Black Jackal’s victory against the Schweiden Adlers.
At the end of the manga, he was also selected for the national Japan team for the 2021 Olympics.
