Karasuno high school is where our protagonists, Hinata and Kageyama study and play volleyball. It is located in the Miyagi prefecture of Japan and is in the same prefecture as Shiratorizawa, which has Ushijima, one of the top 3 spikers in Japan.

The school has a volleyball team. The uniform for the boys’ volleyball team is a black tracksuit with white details on it. During practice, the boys wear a white T-shirt and black shorts. They sometimes wear a yellow sports brib on top. During official matches, the members have black jersey and shorts which has orange details on them. The libero’s uniform is the exact opposite with an orange jersey and black details.

The Karausno boys’ volleyball team is quite famous, both for good and bad reasons. Before the coming of the first years and the new coach, Ukai, Karasuno did not win most of its matches. Daichi Sawamura, took the position of both the captain and the coach until Ukai took this position. The Karasuno volleyball was also called the ‘flightless crows’ or the ‘fallen champions.’ Let’s find out why.

The word ‘Karasu’ literally means crown in Japanese, which is why Karasuno is called the crows as well. Up until a few years before the coming of the third year, Karasuno used to be a powerhouse high school. The former powerhouse high school represented the Miyagi prefecture a total of nine times under the guidance of Ikkei Ukai, the grandfather of the current coach of Karasuno highschool. They used to be called champions and everyone used to be scared of having a match with Karasuno. This was also the time the ‘little giant’ used to play for Karasuno.

However, this winning streak ended. After having so much success, the Karasuno team could not even manage to clear their prefecture’s preliminaries. This earned them the humiliating nickname, ‘the flightless crows.’ Adding salt to the wound, the previous coach Ukai got hospitalized and the team was left without a coach. After this, the team got worse and worse and many opponents could not imagine that this was the same team that managed to go to the nationals so many times.

It wasn’t until years later that Karasuno managed to get their winning streak back. Their new winning streak was termed as the flightless crows retaking flight. The team managed to improve from that point onward. This madeHaikyuu!! Very interesting and fun to watch.
