Animes have become mainstream nowadays. The COVID lockdown had a very good impact on anime viewership and it cause anime to finally reach the hype and attention it genuinely deserves. Many great animes have been released for many years now but some people don’t know that many animes are generally based on Manga.
Manga is a Japanese comic and most animes are adapted from it. Manga are printed and published in black and white and not in color. Fans are curious as to why that is. Let’s find out.
What Is Manga?
As mentioned above, manga is a Japanese comic. A person writing a manga is called a mangaka. A mangaka not only writes the manga, but they also draw and create the plot and everything.
A Manga is created in chapters and each chapter generally consists of 10-12 pages. New chapters come out weekly or fortnightly. Each chapter first gets published in a magazine such as the shonen jump, and after it gets a few chapters, they are compiled into volumes.
Many people are unaware of this fact, but manga are supposed to be read from the right side. They also begin from the backside, in the sense that the spine is on the right side instead of the left. Most manga are published in black and white instead of color.
Why Is It Published In Black And White?
Creating a manga is a very time-consuming and hectic process. Unlike in a book, the Mangaka has to release chapters consistently for the manga to gain popularity. The artwork in the manga is extremely detailed, down to the placement of the shadow of a character. This process is very time-consuming. The manga are illustrated in black and white as it takes less time compared to colors.
The mangakas are very short on time and cannot afford to spend more time choosing colors and making the illustrations in color. That is why manga are published in black and white.
Another reason is that the printing process will also take time as more stencils will be required to print the colored manga. It will increase the cost significantly. These are the reasons why manga are published in black and white.
