“Barbie Is In Grief”: Internet Claims Margot Robbie Donned Anti-Pink Gown At Oscars To Protest Against Best Actress Snub

The ‘Barbie’ vs ‘Oppenheimer’ showdown at the Oscars finally ended amid heavy anticipation, with the winds and the critics favoring the former. The ‘Barbenheimer’ trend and the cutthroat competition between the two blockbuster movies had added an extra layer of anticipation to the Oscars this year. With ‘Oppenheimer‘ emerging victorious with the award for Best Picture, ‘Barbie‘ fans may have mourned the evening a bit.

But that was not the only woe at the event. Margot Robbie‘s sartorial statement at the Oscars 2024 has fashion enthusiasts and fans buzzing on social media. The Australian actress, who played the iconic Mattel doll in Greta Gerwig’s 2023 hit film, opted for a bold black Versace gown against the classic pink outfit that was expected of her. Fans are now eagerly deciphering the move and what it may mean.

The 33-year-old Margot Robbie — who was snubbed from the Oscar nominations despite her crucial role in the heavily nominated film ‘Barbie‘ — dazzled the Oscars event with a strapless chainmail black gown. The detail of the outfit was gathered at the waist, as the actress looked stunning.

The anti-pink elegance was complemented with blonde locks flowing down in a straight style. For jewelry, the actress opted for a chunky gold bracelet adorned with diamonds from Fred Leighton.

Margot Robbie was the only one dressed in any other color than pink among her ‘Barbie’ co-stars including Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, as well as the film’s director Greta Gerwig. As Robbie made her entrance, fans were quick to interpret her wardrobe choice as a potential protest against her Best Actress Oscars snub.

Take a stand girl! Don’t give them what they want!”

The speculation continued, with one commenter stating, “She’s always beautiful. But is this a protest dress for not getting the best actress nomination? ” Another went as far as declaring, “Barbie is in grief for her non-nomination.”

Despite the absence of a Best Actress nod for Robbie, the film ‘Barbie’ — which she also co-produced with husband Tom Ackerley — was a tough contender for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Costume Design, Production Design, and Writing.
