In 2022, the artists and the fraternity members boycott it due to several controversies. This was due to lack of diversity in the panel voting to short lists the nominations and the winners. Due to Covid, they limited presence of the audience. The results were declared on their social media handle.

Its traditional broadcaster NBC refused to broadcast the ceremony in 2022. The LA Times released a report which highlighted that there was no member from the Black community in the panel. The industry accused HFPA of gatekeeping.

It was for the first time since the Writers Guild of America that the show was boycotted. But, in 2023, the viewers and cinephiles will be able to have a proper viewing experience of the ceremony. NBC will be broadcasting the ceremony and the Golden Globes will be streamed on Peacock. The ceremony will begin at 8 PM ET and 5 PM PT. It will be on January 10th, 2023.
