And the awards season begins! The 80th edition of the Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 10th, 2023. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) members take the mammoth task of cherry picking some of the most glorious pieces of cinema and television. The President of HFPA Helen Hoehne along with Mayan Lopez and Selenis Leyva announced the nominations.
This year there is a plethora of diverse talent, cinema, and television content nominated to compete for the coveted trophy. ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Tár’, ‘RRR’, and others are the nominated films. The list also includes some veterans and debutants in the race to sweep the Golden Globe award. In 2022, the ceremony was marred with controversies along with the Covid fear looming over the head. Golden Globe Awards Will Be Back On NBC
In 2022, the artists and the fraternity members boycott it due to several controversies. This was due to lack of diversity in the panel voting to short lists the nominations and the winners. Due to Covid, they limited presence of the audience. The results were declared on their social media handle.
Its traditional broadcaster NBC refused to broadcast the ceremony in 2022. The LA Times released a report which highlighted that there was no member from the Black community in the panel. The industry accused HFPA of gatekeeping.
It was for the first time since the Writers Guild of America that the show was boycotted. But, in 2023, the viewers and cinephiles will be able to have a proper viewing experience of the ceremony. NBC will be broadcasting the ceremony and the Golden Globes will be streamed on Peacock. The ceremony will begin at 8 PM ET and 5 PM PT. It will be on January 10th, 2023.

The NBC And HFPA Released A Statement Regarding The Former’s Return
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) had a tough 2022 shadowed with cancellation of the live telecast and the boycott. Actors like Regina King, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, and others boycotted them. But, Tom Cruise went a step ahead and returned the awards he won for his films ‘Magnolia’, ‘Born on the Fourth of July’, and ‘Jerry Maguire’. But, the organization has made amendments. NBC wanted to see HFPA making a “meaningful” reform.
But, in a new statement, it said, “We recognize the HFPA’s commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80th Anniversary in January 2023”.
The President of HFPA said, “We are thrilled to announce the return of the Golden Globe Awards on NBC and to hosting the ‘Party of the Year’ for audiences around the world who have been waiting for its return. It’s great to be back at the Beverly Hilton for the must-see celebration recognizing the best in film and television”.
She continued, “The HFPA remains committed to important changes and supporting programs which prioritize diversity, inclusion, and transparency. See you on January 10!”
