But Swift’s acceptance of the award from Dion sparked online criticism as she allegedly did not acknowledge or hug Dion, leading to a social media storm. Amid all the backlash for Swift that followed, an insider told Page Six that Dion shook the ignorance off and could not have cared less about how Taylor behaved on stage.
“I don’t think Céline cared and they talked backstage afterwards,” the insider said. “But Céline was just gracious and happy to be there. Of course, the right thing would have been for Taylor to acknowledge her, like Adele did years ago,” the insider added, asserting that Taylor could have been a bit more courteous than she was.
The insider was referring to a similar instance in 2017, when Adele won Song of the Year and Celine Dion had presented her with the award. Adele had made an “I’m not worthy” hand motion to Dion and hugged her before receiving the award, thus showcasing proper etiquette.

Taylor And Celine’s Warm Embrace Backstage Tells A Different Story Amid Rumors
Though Taylor was slammed for actively ignoring Dion on stage, the backstage scene revealed a different story. Photos of Dion and Taylor hugging each other backstage also soon surfaced on social media with the internet divided over Taylor’s behavior.
While many still thought what Taylor did was disrespectful, some others asserted that the hate is for no reason as the two stars happily embraced each other backstage. Some speculations also suggested that Swift might have been instructed not to touch Dion due to the nature of Stiff-Person syndrome, which can be triggered by noise, stress, and touch.
However, several celebrities reportedly flocked to Dion’s dressing room backstage after the Grammys event. The singer also reportedly had some candid conversations with Stevie Wonder and Oprah Winfrey.
The insider said that Dion wanted to show her resilience against Stiff-Person syndrome, a painful but non-fatal neurological disease that she has been struggling with for a while now. “She wanted to show everyone that she’s doing alright. She has good days and bad days…it’s a painful disease, but it’s not a death sentence,” the insider said.
Despite the ailment, Dion looked fantastic during the Grammys 2024 and was also received with ample warmth from her industry peers.
