Emmy’s In Memoriam Segment Pays Poignant Tribute To Matthew Perry
The 2023 Emmy Awards night was in full glory with stars gracing the event dressed their best. Amid the celebratory spirit, the authorities paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Matthew Perry during the In Memoriam segment. The segment commemorated several departed stars other than Perry, including Len Goodman, Andre Braugher, Lance Reddick, Paul Reubens, Barbara Walters, Angela Lansbury, and Kirstie Alley among others.
The tribute was adorned with performances by pop singer Charlie Puth and the singer-songwriter duo The War and Treaty. The homage began with Puth’s rendition of ‘See You Again‘ and transitioned into a stripped-down cover of ‘I’ll Be There for You’, the iconic theme song from ‘Friends’.
Perry was most popular for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the hit ’90s and early 2000s sitcom ‘Friends’. His iconic sarcasm on the show coupled with exceptional acting and humor made the show one of the greatest ever in television history. Perry starred in all 200 episodes across ten seasons of the show.

Matthew Perry’s Death Left The World Grieving
While his death sent shockwaves across the world, many celebrities also chimed in to offer their tributes. The ‘Friends‘ cast members, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer, issued a joint statement expressing their devastation. “We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” the statement said.
In an exclusive statement to Variety, Aniston saidshe had exchanged texts with Perry on the day of his passing, asserting that he was happy and in good health. “He was happy. He was healthy. He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy — that’s all I know,” Aniston said. “I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty. He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was happy.”
Matt LeBlanc also separately took to Instagram to reminisce about the times he spent with Perry as he bid farewell to a dear friend. He wrote that “the times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life.” “It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me,” he added.
After Perry’s passing, his family established the Matthew Perry Foundation dedicated to helping people grappling with addiction.
