‘Australian of the Year’ and wheel chaired tennis player Dylan Alcott made Queen Elizabeth II Chuckle with happiness throughout a Zoom meeting on her diamond jubilee celebration.
In early May, Alcott joined a group of other Australians who had been honored on Australia Day. They made a video call to Queen Elizabeth II as part of celebrations to mark the monarch’s seventieth year in office.
During the introduction, Mr. Alcott talked about his athletic accomplishments and how he competed against the best tennis players in Britain.
Dylan Alcott Makes Queen Laugh In A Sweet Video Call
Wheelchair tennis champ Dylan Alcott made the Queen chuckle. “I won 15 Grand Slam singles titles playing wheelchair tennis,” He Stated to Queen while introducing himself. He added, “I, unfortunately, won a couple of Wimbledon titles, beat some Great Britain players, which I was happy about but maybe you weren’t so happy about.”
To everyone’s delight, Queen Elizabeth laughed out loud when Alcott joked about retiring from tennis after his record-breaking Golden Slam triumph, adding that he was looking forward to having more fun at events in the future.
“I’m looking forward to coming to Wimbledon and actually drinking a Pimm’s this time, rather than playing the whole time, you know what I mean? It’s going to be fun.”

During the interaction with the queen, the athlete discussed how his condition affected his mental health as a young man, and how this inspired him to do charitable work that he has been recognized for.
“When I was a young kid I used to hate myself, your Majesty,” he stated. “If I thought anybody in a wheelchair, let alone myself, would be ‘Australian of the Year’, I wouldn’t have believed you. (It’s) an honor.”
He continued, “I informed my mother last night that I’d be meeting you and she broke down in tears, stating how much success has meant to me and my family. I think I’ve made her very proud as well. A real honor for me to be here today, thank you”.
