Benedict Cumberbatch has played some of the most iconic roles in TV shows and films alike over the span of his illustrious career so far. His face became synonymous to author Arthur Conan Dyle’s book character, detective Sherlock Holmes, after he took on the lead role in BBC’s ‘Sherlock’. The show is considered one of the greatest television series of all time.
With merely four seasons and a spin-off, ‘Sherlock’ has left its fans craving more even after its conclusion. Given the widespread fanbase and acclamation for the show, many including the show’s fans as well as creators are hoping for another season with the leads Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson respectively. Even some actors from the show are hoping to get another season. But there’s a catch.

‘Sherlock’ Season 5 Has Been In The Talks Among Show’s Creators And Actors
During a recent interview at the Radio Times Covers Party, co-creator of ‘Sherlock’, Steven Moffat opened up about the prevailing collective eagerness of the show’s team to revive the series. Moffat revealed that actor Mark Gatiss, who portrayed Mycroft Holmes on the show, and Sue Vertue, a producer on the series, are eager to get another season into works.
Moffat added that the creators also eager to introduce a new storyline for the fifth season of the show. But the main obstacle that is stopping them from doing so is the unavailability of both the lead actors, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
Moffat said that given the eagerness that has been there for a while now, the series could resume production really quick if only Cumberbatch and Freeman agree to reprise their iconic roles. “They’re on to bigger and better things but, Martin and Benedict, please come back?” Moffat said during the podcast.

Benedict Cumberbatch And Martin Freeman Have Extremely Busy Schedules
After ‘Sherlock’, both Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman ventured into projects with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and garnered immense recognition. In another interview with the BBC, Moffat recognized their achievements beyond the TV show, but appealed to their connection with the series and its dedicated fan base.
Other than these actors, Sherlock was adorned with a star-cast including actors like Andrew Scott and Mark Gatiss, who would also need to get onboard for the show’s sequel if at all the creators decide to retain their iconic roles.
So the potential revival of ‘Sherlock’ hinges mostly on the willingness of its lead actors to reunite with their iconic characters on the show. As fans eagerly await a fifth season, the decision is up to Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman to step back into their detective and doctor shoes and revive ‘Sherlock’.
