After five years of marriage, Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley are getting a divorce. A joint statement from the ex-couple was uploaded to Chance’s Instagram Stories on Wednesday, announcing their breakup.
“After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the statement read. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition.“
The statement also talked about their plans of co-parenting as it read, “God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together,” referring to their two daughters, 8-year-old Kensli and four-year-old Marli Grace.
Chance And Kirsten’s Relationship
The rapper, whose real name is Chancelor Johnathan Bennett got married to Kirsten in March 2019. Following six years of dating, the couple got engaged, and the next year they got married in a ceremony held in Newport Beach, California.
They have known each other since they were young but only started dating somewhere in 2012. Talking about a childhood incident, Chance joked about how he wanted to marry her ever since he saw her. The rapper recalled, “My mom worked at a real estate agency with her mom. Her daughters love to dance so they did a choreographed dance at this real estate party that I was at when I was 9. I saw her dancing and I was like, ‘Let’s get married!’”
He added, “I really shouldn’t even say locked eyes cause really, I was just staring at her; as she and her girls were conquering this choreography and mastering the art of lip-syncing in a way even the most professional performers have yet to accomplish.”
The couple welcomed their daughter Kensli as their first child together in September 2015, followed by Marsli in 2019.
