Did Olivia Rodrigo Copy Miley Cyrus’s Song In Her New Album?

Olivia Rodrigo‘s new album ‘GUTS’ is out, and it’s an absolute bop. After the success of her first album, Rodrigo dropped her highly anticipated sophomore album, along with two music videos and lots and lots of references to her personal life, including some jabs at exes.

However, one of her songs is gaining a lot of traction, and it might lead Rodrigo into trouble. No, it’s not because of some frustrating lyrics about an ex. It’s actually because of its striking similarity to a popular Miley Cyrus song.

Olivia Rodrigo Accused Of Copying Miley Cyrus In Her New Song

When ‘Sour’ came out, Olivia was accused of copying her songs ‘Good For You’ and ‘1 Step Forward, Two Steps Back’ from Taylor Swift and Paramore. It later resulted in Olivia having to give credits to both the artists in her album, and a smoky beef between her and Taylor Swift.

Now it seems like even in her sophomore album, she’s accused of sampling two Miley Cyrus songs for two of her songs, ‘Vampire‘ and ‘All American B*tch*’.

The 12-track, 39-minute album begins with the single ‘All American B****,’ which has been compared to Miley Cyrus’ 2008 song “Start All Over” in terms of musical similarity.

Another song off of ‘Guts’ has a striking similarity with another Miley Cyrus song.

The bridge for ‘Vampire’ seems heavily inspired by Miley Cyrus’ song ‘See You Again. Fans of Rodrigo pointed out that in pop music there are always similarities and that the attacks on her calling her music copied are reaching. While others argued that this isn’t the first time it has happened and she should give credit whenever she takes inspiration from an artist’s music.

Is this the first time Olivia Rodrigo has been accused of plagiarising songs? Definitely not.

After Sour came out, many people were quick to link the similarities of her songs ‘1 Step Forward 2 Step Back’ and ‘Deja Vu’ with Taylor Swift’s ‘New Year’s Day’ and ‘Cruel Summer‘ The intro and piano score of ‘1 Step Forward 2 Step Back’ was exactly like the piano score of Swift’s ‘New Year’s Day’. While the bridge of ‘Cruel Summer‘ seemed to be the inspiration for the bridge of ‘Deja Vu’ .

Soon after Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff got credits for the song.

Speaking about the song Olivia said “I love ‘Cruel Summer.’ That’s one of my favorite songs ever. I love the yell-y vocal in it, the harmonized yells she does. I feel like they’re super electric and moving, so I wanted to do something like that.”

It might be that Olivia has to credit Miley in her songs for the similarities.
