‘Doctor Who‘ is a British scientific fiction television series, which revolves around the adventures of an eccentric time-traveling scientist. But the show failed to capture the heart of the audience and actor Matt Smith is here to address it.
Matt, who played the role of Eleventh Doctor in the series, is seemingly finding ways to embrace the series even after a large amount of hate directed towards it. Here’s what the actor has said about it.
Matt Smith Is Grateful For ‘Doctor Who’ And Doesn’t Understand The Hate Towards It
Matt Smith was a newcomer when he joined ‘Doctor Who‘, but his popularity soon skyrocketed and he remains the best version of the Time Lord in the eyes of many fans. In an interview with The Times, he questioned why people hate the show about “an alien who is cool and travels around the universe.”
In the same interview, he continued about the possible beliefs that could potentially upset the content risk of dumbing down storytelling. He said, “Too much policing of stories and being afraid to bring them out because a climate is a certain way is a shame. I’m not sure I’m on board with trigger warnings.”

Matt added, “It’s OK to feel uncomfortable or provoked while looking at a painting or watching a play, but I worry everything’s being dialed and dumbed down. We’re telling audiences they’re going to be scared before they’ve watched something.”
Some Fans Were Deeply Unhappy With Other Characters Of ‘Doctor Who’
Matt Smith followed in the footsteps of David Tennant and was later reprised by Peter Capaldi, when ‘The Suicide Squad‘ actor walked away from Tardis. Jodie Whittaker was next to fill in the shoes, and it was then a divide among the fanbase was seen. Matt Smith currently is part of ‘House of the Dragon‘.
Smith also talked about his overnight success. “It was overnight,” the actor said talking about the impact of ‘Doctor Who‘ on his career. “Nobody knew who I was and suddenly I was f***ing Doctor Who!“
Moreover, some fans were deeply unhappy with a woman playing the doctor. Ncuti Gatwa also, unfortunately, faced a similar kind of backlash because he belonged to the black community and was a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Moreover, Matt Smith was also asked whether he still watches the show. To which Matt responded that he doesn’t watch the show that much but he’s proud of the fact that he was a part of it. He asserted that it is watched by a nine-year-old, his parents, and his 83-year-old grandparents, and it’s a great feeling for him during Christmas when everybody watches it together.
Smith isn’t expected to return in ‘Doctor Who‘ but we have his role as Prince Daemon Targaryen to look forward to in ‘House of the Dragon‘ as the best is yet to come for his character.
