Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, is one of the few professional wrestlers who have successfully transitioned into acting. He is one of the most commercially successful actors of all time. Until last year, Johnson along with Henry Cavill was a part of the DC Extended Universe.
At the Oscars red carpet, the ‘Black Adam‘ actor talked about the DC Universe and how his plans of a Black Adam-Superhero crossover were halted. Last year, the studio axed several projects from its slate. So let’s find out in detail what Johnson said about Cavill’s Superman.

Dwayne Johnson Reflects On DC Universe
Dwayne Johnson made his foray into the superhero genre with DC’s ‘Black Adam‘ last year. The film met with a mostly mixed response and was a box office dud. But fans were delighted with a sneak peek about a potential crossover. It was supposed to be between Black Adam and Henry Cavill’s Superman.
However, things didn’t go as planned and these projects were axed by the studio. According to Variety, the ‘Fast Five‘ actor talked about it on the Oscars red carpet. “All that I can do, and all that we could do when we were making ‘Black Adam,’ was to put our best foot forward and surround ourselves with the best people and deliver the best movie we could,” he said.
He added, “Our audience score was in the 90s. Critics took a couple shots, but that’s just the business of it.” Things changed after James Gunn and Peter Safran were installed as new DC studio heads.

DC Axed Several Projects
After Gunn and Safran took over the studio, they made several sweeping changes. This included canceling a planned crossover and ‘Black Adams 2.’ They also announced that Cavill will not be returning as the caped crusader.
Right after Johnson’s film was released last year, Cavill announced that he will be returning as Superman. However, things changed quickly and many projects were shelved. This includes ‘Wonder Woman 3‘ as well as ‘Batgirl.’
“James Gunn and I connected, and ‘Black Adam’ will not be in their first chapter of storytelling,” Johnson told everyone in December last year. This year, Gunn announced several DC films and shows that will release in the coming years.
