    Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, is one of the few wrestlers to successfully transition into acting. After a rough patch initially, he has become one of the most successful names in Hollywood. Apart from acting, Johnson also produces films, TV shows, and documentaries under his Seven Bucks banner.

    Recently, the ‘San Andreas‘ actor said he is teaming up with Disney to adapt the live-action version of his 2016 animated musical film ‘Moana.’ It is a part of Hollywood’s growing trend of adapting successful animated films into live-action flicks.     Dwayne Johnson Is Doing ‘Moana’s Live-Action Adaptation

    Dwayne Johnson voiced a character named Maui, a demigod of the sea and wind in Disney’s ‘Moana.’ The film was a major critical and commercial success and received two Oscar nominations.

    On Monday, the former WWE wrestler announced that he will be doing its live-action adaptation with Disney. He will be also producing the project under his banner Seven Bucks Productions with Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

    Johnson announced the news at their annual shareholder’s meeting. “This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength,” he said.

    I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me,” he added.

    ‘Moana’ Was A Major Success For The Studio

    The film tells the story of Moana, a young girl who goes on a quest to find and reunite a mystical relic with its rightful owner, goddess Te Fit. Its plot was heavily inspired by Polynesian myths.

    Auli‘i Cravalho, the actress who voiced the titular role in the original, will serve as the executive producer on this film. The animated film minted more than $665 million globally.

    Disney has been working on the live-action adaptation of ‘Lilo & Stitch‘; its filming is slated to start in the summer of this year. In the past, the studio has churned out live-action adaptations like ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Aladdin.’
