Hands down, the notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt is everyone’s favorite from the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. If ‘Star Wars’ had a ‘What if?‘ version, it would most probably revolve around Jabba The Hutt, especially when Guillermo del Toro‘s love for monsters is quite vocal.
In a recent interview with Collider, Guillermo del Toro reflected on his interest in directing a solo film on Tatooine’s crime lord. Sadly, that particular ‘Star Wars’ project never moved forward.

Guillermo Del Toro Axed ‘Jabba The Hutt’ Film
It is a known fact that the Oscar-winning director is obsessed with monsters, sadly Del Toro’s excitement fizzled out soon when the prospect of the project revolving around Jabba the Hutt did not move forward. Negotiations took place when the studio was expanding the franchise with spinoffs and remakes.
During the interview with Collider, Guillermo del Toro reflected back on the Jabba the Hutt project. The director said that the film would cover the rise and fall of the crime boss. Scrapping off the project, del Toro further added that his team “designed a great world full of great stuff” and he was satisfied with it.

Here’s Why Jabba The Hutt Film Was Scrapped Off
As much as Del Toro was excited to present the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt, the director said, “We were doing a lot of stuff, and then it’s not my property, it’s not my money, and then it’s one of those 30 screenplays that goes away. Sometimes I’m bitter, sometimes I’m not. I always turn to my team and say, Good practice, guys. Good practice. We designed a great world. We designed great stuff. We learned.”
As Del Toro and his team couldn’t go ahead with the film about Star Wars, the Oscar-winning director went on to direct ‘Shape of Water’. In the same interview, Del Taro also opened up about why he didn’t end up directing the sequel to ‘Pacific Rim’.
