Halle Berry is a name that has echoed through Hollywood for decades. From her groundbreaking Oscar win to her daring red carpet looks, she knows how to keep us all talking.
But in case you’ve forgotten, Berry also made headlines 20 years ago for her portrayal of Patience Phillips, a.k.a. ‘Catwoman‘—a role that had critics sharpening their claws at the time. But now, two decades later, the film seems to be clawing its way back into the spotlight. And yes, Halle’s having a moment of sweet vindication.
Helly Berry Talks About ‘Catwoman’ Finally Getting Appreciation After 20 Years
Berry didn’t shy away from addressing the harsh critiques that ‘Catwoman‘ received upon its release. “The film was panned by critics as having ‘s**ked’ at its time of release,” she acknowledged.
Berry further affirmed that she still stands by ‘Catwoman’. She said, “It got panned. The critics said it sucked balls. And balls aren’t that bad.” Now, Halle Berry is getting the last laugh. “The children have found it now on the internet, and the kids love it,” she said, grinning from ear to ear.
“So it’s so vindicating, right? Because now they’re saying it’s cool and what the heck was everybody’s problem with it? So I’m like, ‘I’m so brat now,‘” Berry laughed, clearly relishing in the role reversal.
So, what’s next for Halle and her alter-ego, Patience Phillips? When Fallon asked if she’d consider donning the cat ears again, Berry didn’t rule it out. “Maybe, if I could direct it. Maybe!” she teased.

The Story Behind Halle Berry’s Semi-Nude Photoshoot To Mark 20 Years Of ‘Catwoman’
For the movie’s 20th anniversary, Berry took to Instagram with a semi-nude photoshoot that nearly broke the internet. Posing with her kittens, Boots and Coco, she showed us all that she’s still got it—both in the looks department and in her ability to spark a conversation. But beyond the photos, there’s more to the story, and Halle’s ready to spill the tea.
Berry, who just who turned 58 on Wednesday, is currently promoting her new Netflix film, ‘The Union.‘ Appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Berry shared the story behind those viral topless photos. “Just in time for our 20th anniversary, these four little black cats showed up in my yard,” she revealed, as casually as one might mention finding a penny on the street. “Like, these are rescue kitties that showed up in my bushes.“
And just like that, the internet got a dose of Halle’s wild side. Fallon, never one to miss a beat, couldn’t resist poking fun at Berry’s racy shoot. “This is what happens when you show up at your house?!” he joked, making reference to her stripped-down look. Berry, with her signature charm, quipped back, “That’s why I did that! The kitties made me do it.“
‘The Union‘ is currently streaming on Netflix.
