“He Made Their Race A Focal Point”: Internet Slams Prince William For Praising Kate Middleton’s “Filipino” Nurses

The British Royal family has been sailing some rough tides as the 75-year-old monarch King Charles has recently been diagnosed with cancer. While there already has been a long-standing drama regarding Prince William and King Charles after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties after getting marries, the health scare has brought a new omen to the family.

However, some experts are suggesting that the cancer diagnosis might actually work in the family’s favor and give them a chance to mend their dented relationship. As the King Charles’ family members navigate through the health crisis together, there’s another controversy that Prince William has now found himself mired into.

Prince William recently made a public appearance at a high-profile charity event where he addressed his father’s cancer diagnosis, and also talked about his wife Princess Kate Middleton’s health scare. After she underwent an abdominal surgery, Prince William said Middleton’s healthcare team has been doing a commendable job.

However, what he seemed to have said in good faith backfired on him. While thanking Princess Kate’s healthcare team, Prince William specifically mentioned the Filipino women that have been nursing her.

The Duke of Cambridge honored Patricia Spruce with an MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) on Wednesday, and during the exchange, he spoke about the exceptional care provided by two Filipino nurses attending to Kate during her recovery from abdominal surgery.

Social media erupted with criticism, accusing Prince William of unnecessarily emphasizing the nurses’ ethnicity. “Like what does their race have anything to do with it??” tweeted one social media user.

It is very important to know Kate’s nurses were Filipino. Why? Hell if I know, ask Will,” wrote another. “He made their race a focal point in a room full of White people.”

It’s very telling who was included in the Archie’s complexion debacle,” one more X user said, referencing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s claims that royal family members had questioned their son’s skin color.

William said Kate had two Filipino nurses. Why was it important to say they were Filipino nurses as opposed to just nurses?” questioned a fourth person.

Meanwhile, some social media users also appreciated the acknowledgment of Filipino healthcare workers. “Filipino nurses are kind and very caring. They are the best in field in my opinion and very protective so glad about this as I have a lot of Filipino friends and their food is delicious,” a user on X wrote.

The controversy comes at a sensitive point for the royal family, especially because of the recent tensions about race and representation.
