Who Was Fred White?
White was the drummer and one of the earlier members of the band Earth, Wind & Fire. Before joining the band, he played drums for Donny Hathaway and his Live album.
The band that gave him fame consisted of White, his half-brother Maurice White, his brother Verdine White, and other nine members. All of them were inducted into the 2000 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
They also won a Grammy Award and were among the best-selling bands of all time, with sales of more than 90 million records globally. One of their biggest strength was their command over different genres like jazz, R&B, soul, funk, etc.

How Did He Die?
Fred passed away on January 1 at the age of 67. His brother and bandmate Verdine White announced the news of his death via Instagram. Though he did not mention the cause of the drummer’s death.
“Dearest Family Friends and Fans… Our family is saddened today with the loss of an amazing and talented family member, our beloved brother Frederick Eugene ‘Freddie’ White,” he wrote. Verdine further wrote, “He joins our brothers Maurice, Monte and Ronald in heaven and is now drumming with the angels!” He then called Fred a child protege who received gold records at the age of 16.
Lenny Kravitz also paid respect to Fred by writing, “Sending my love and deepest condolences to you and the family. I was blessed to have been in his presence and blessed to have been influenced by him. A true king. Rest in power.”
