Ellen Pompeo, one of the original cast of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, said adieu to the show prior to her character’s exit from the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. On Instagram, Pompeo made fans bittersweet with her recent post marking the end of her character in the show. The show became a household classic over the course of 17 years. Fans were certainly struck by the passage of time as they reminisced about the debut of Meredith Grey as an intern at the then-Seattle Grace Hospital.
Meredith has been titled “the heroine of Grey’s Anatomy“ by The New York Times. But now it’s time to say goodbye to our reliable surgeon. The producers of the show have already paved the way to fill the gaping hole that will be created by Ellen’s absence. The new interns at the Grey Loan Memorial Hospital have already started their medical adventures with one patient after another. Meanwhile, Meredith juggles her role as the temporary chief of surgeons while mulling over Nick’s recent visit.

Pompeo Says Goodbye To Meredith
On Friday, Ellen took to Instagram to say farewell to the characters she has been playing for 19 seasons. Ellen bowed to her fans for their unshakable support all these years. She wrote, “I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons!” She further continued, “Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!! I love you madly and appreciate you right back.”
However, the actress has confirmed that this is not the last time we will see Meridith. She announced, ” This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE”
The medical drama production stated that Ellen, the protagonist since the first season aired, will share less screen time than before. According to People, Ellen has been trying to convince the producers that the show has run its course and to bring it to a finale. However, it is also confirmed the news that Grey’s Anatomy will not see the sunset yet.

What’s Next For Ellen Pompeo?
Although we will see less of Meredith in the show, we will hear her voice as the narrator. She will also return for the season’s finale next year. After committing herself to Grey’s Anatomy for more than a decade, Ellen is moving on to explore more projects outside. Pompeo will star in a new movie derived from 2009 Orphan. Orphan is a psychological thriller, in which a couple’s adopted daughter wreaks on the “happy” household while hiding a shocking double-digit age.
Ellen has won numerous accolades for her role as Meredith Grey. In 2007, she won a Satellite Award for Best Actress in a drama series, and over 2013 and 2015 she won two People’s Choice Awards. Nominated for Golden Globes, Ellen has been praised by the rating website Metacritic, “Like Hugh Laurie’s irascible “House” title character, star Ellen Pompeo’s newly minted Dr. Grey conveys such substance that you simply can’t stop watching.”
