Tom Holland Reveals He Hasn’t Been Drinking For A While
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, actor Tom Holland revealed that he has been sober for a year and four months. He credits the Apple TV+ series ‘The Crowded Room‘ for changing his views on mental health and drinking.
“Learning about mental health and the power of it, and speaking to psychiatrists about Danny and Billy’s struggles, has been something that has been so informative to my own life,” he said.
Holland said that he now realizes the trigger points like social media which causes him stress. Last year, he decided to take a break from social media platforms for his mental well-being.
“[I hope ‘Crowded Room’ viewers] have more respect and more sympathy for people who are going through mental health issues,” he added. “I hope that people will feel educated about the powers of mental health, the struggles, [and] our incredible abilities to survive.”

Holland Is Playing Billy Milligan In The Series
In the series, Holland portrays the role of Billy Milligan, a criminal responsible for several rape cases and robberies. Milligan was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder and became the first person to be acquitted because of his mental condition.
In the same interview, Holland said the character took a toll on him. “I was seeing myself in [the character], but in my personal life,” he explained.
“I remember having a bit of a meltdown at home and thinking, like, ‘I’m going to shave my head. I need to shave my head because I need to get rid of this character.’ And, obviously, we were mid-shooting, so I decided not to… It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before.”
