How ‘Stranger Things 4’ Saved Actor Joseph Quinn After He Was Detained At U.S. Airport

Joseph Quinn, the famous star who plays Eddie Munson in record-breaking ‘Stranger Things 4’, wouldn’t have been able to make it to his Jimmy Fallon show invite if it weren’t for the upside-down TV series and his fan-favorite character of Eddie.

We do not mean this metaphorically, but quite literally. On ‘Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show,’ the 29-year-old actor narrated his airport detention story and how his character rescued him from the ill-fated event.

Joseph Quinn had arrived in New York for an appearance on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,’ but before he could make it, the actor got held at the airport by the U.S. Immigration. Joseph described that the place where the immigration officer took him looked like a ‘dungeon.’ Explaining the unexpected turn of events, the actor told Jimmy, “I very nearly didn’t make it. I was taken into, I guess you could call it, more of a dungeon. And I was asked to wait there for about 20 minutes and then I was summoned to this desk where someone asked me, ‘What are you doing in the United States, sir?’ I said, ‘I’m actually here to meet Jimmy Fallon on, ‘The Tonight Show.’ And he didn’t believe me.

When the second immigration officer appeared, he recognized Quinn as Eddie Munson. He further narrated, “One of his colleagues looked over at him, looked at me, and said: ‘Leave Eddie alone!‘” And then [the colleague] said, ‘It’s Eddie from ‘Stranger Things,” and he was like, ‘You’re Eddie Munson?‘” The quick rollover of the event, from extremely stressful to a comically unbelievable one, is all thanks to Eddie Munson. Afterward, the second immigration officer posed an interesting question to the actor before returning his passport, “‘Do you come back next season?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know,’ and he said, ‘You better,’ and gave me my passport.”

Eddie Munson’s character has been widely loved by ‘Stranger Things‘ fans all over the world. Joseph Quinn literally breathed life into the tragedy-stricken character. One of the problems the British actor faced was nailing that American accent. ‘Off Menu Podcast’ co-host complimented Quinn for his sleek American accent, to which he responded that getting that accent right made him feel like a sociopath at one point. He said, “You feel like a sociopath. After a while I was so far down the rabbit hole, at points I’d be like, ‘Do I sound good? Do you like this? Do you like what I’m doing?’”

His co-star Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington, helped Quinn relieve some of his anxiety over the accent. Keery comforted him, saying, “Dude, I can’t save you, but I promise you it’s gonna be fine.”
