The kiss, which happened more than two decades ago, still makes the rounds back into discussions and tabloids. Jolie and Haven left a mark on the history of pop culture. The siblings attended the Academy Awards owing to Jolie’s nomination for the psychological movie, ‘Girl Interrupted‘. So, what kind of relationship do they share?

The Academy Award nomination was certainly a big, unparalleled achievement of hers. Reaching the milestone in such a short span of time was no easy feat. She visited the ceremony with her brother, who then was 26 years old. Angelina was 24 at that time.
That momentous night, Jolie won the Oscar and picked up the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ trophy. Giving her acceptance speech on the stage of the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the actress said, “I’m in shock, and I’m so in love with my brother right now,” which was followed by a nervous laugh. She added, “He just held me and said he loved me, and I know he’s so happy for me. And, um, thank you for that.”
Holding her precious trophy, later that evening, Jolie posed for photographers with her brother on her side. During one of these poses, the siblings shared a kiss on the lips, which was, quite honestly, a split-second move. The unexpected kiss between them made it to the front page of every newspaper.
Melissa Rivers, who co-hosted E! Live from the red carpet of the 2000 Academy Awards talked to Bustlein 2020, recalling why that moment stunned everyone. She said, “It was a moment that people hadn’t seen at the Oscars — a blatantly sexual moment. Here are these two beautiful people who literally looked completely different than anyone in the sea of glam and beauty. [They were] glam and beauty in a completely dark, very sexual way.”

The siblings were pestered about this incident for quite a long time. In June 2000, Jolie described the much gossiped-about moment to Entertainment Weekly as nothing “more than brotherly” love for each other. She also said that their parents loved the moment. “My parents really loved that moment, and that’s what will always matter,” she said.
In 2007, Haven was again made to discuss the kiss with Daily Mail and he explained, “I did not give Angie a French kiss. It was something simple and lovely. She was about to go off to Mexico to finish filming Original Sin with Antonio Banderas. I congratulated her on the Oscar win and gave her a quick kiss on the lips. It was snapped and became a big thing.”
Siblings Jolie and Haven have always been close, and still keep intimate ties with each other. Her brother was also present for Jolie’s film premiere of ‘Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,’ in 2019. It was also reported by Us Weekly that the 49-year-old actor is close with his nephews and nieces, and that he was the one looking after them when Jolie and Pitt were working out their divorce.
