Angelina Jolie has over time emerged as one of the finest actresses in Hollywood, with a humanitarian side to her. A stunning combination of kindness and acting talent, she has become an icon in the industry. While the world may know her as a star today, David Duchovny had predicted her future way before her shimmering success.
The actor admits to have seen Angelina for the first time and felt right then that she is meant for great things. David and Angelina were co-stars in the 1997 film ‘Playing Gold’. Even though he was one of the cast members alongside Angelina, he already knew she was going to be a big star in the industry, and he’s now claiming the credit for it.

“I Just Knew She Was A Movie Star”: David Duchovny Says He Saw Angelina Jolie’s Talent Before Everyone Else
David Duchovny claims that he sparked Angelina Jolie’s Oscar-winning career after working together with her in 1997’s ‘Playing Gold’. The 63-year-old actor recently sat down with SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live and played a game where he was expected to say out a word he would associate with his former co-stars.
When host Andy Cohen brought up Jolie’s name, David couldn’t think of a word — instead, he said, “I feel like I discovered Angelina Jolie.”
He continued, “Because I was casting — I was part of the casting of [Playing God]. I didn’t discover her, but you know, she came in and I just knew she was a movie star,” Duchovny said. “I told everybody, ‘We’ve gotta cast her!'”
Host Andy also asked about Julia Louis Dreyfus, whom David termed as “fantastic” and “smart,” Eddie Murphy as “a legend”, Demi Moore as “sweet”, and Halle Berry as “great”, among many others.

Angelina Jolie Shot To Stardom After Her Role In ‘Playing Gold’
The movie ‘Playing Gold‘ revolves around a surgeon called Dr. Eugene Sands, played by Duchovny. The story progresses as his medical license was suspended after he’s caught using drugs. Later in the story, he saves the life of a person in a bar who happens to be a criminal. The criminal appoints him as his doctor as a gesture of gratitude for saving his life.
Jolie plays the role of Claire, who’s the girlfriend of the same criminal, but eventually develops feelings for Dr Sands. Though the movie generated only $1.4 million at the box office, it opened the doors of opportunities for Jolie.
Jolie continued working in ‘Pushing Tin‘, ‘Gia’, ‘Hell’s Kitchen’, and ‘The Bone Collector’ after ‘Playing Gold‘. In 2000, she won the Oscar for best supporting actress for her performance in ‘Girl Interrupted’. She was also nominated for her role in ‘Challenging’ for best actress and was also honored with the Oscars’ Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2014.
