Robert Downey Jr. and Sarah Jessica Parker were once madly in love with each other. The two were in a relationship for almost eight years before parting ways. It was the time when the ‘Iron Man‘ was going through a rough patch and was into substance abuse and legal troubles.
In one of her interviews, the ‘Sex and the City’ star talked about her relationship with Robert. She took a deep dive into what led to their eventual break-up. Sarah also stated that she left him because she did not want him to die at that time. This is in reference to Robert’s drug addiction problems.

Sarah Jessica Parker Talks About Her Relationship With Robert Downey Jr.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. met on the set of the 1984 film ‘Firstborn.’ The two started dating and eventually fell in love. Sarah and Robert then moved in together.
They were only 18 years old. The couple was in a relationship for seven years before parting ways in 1991. This was mainly due to Robert’s drug problems.
In one of the episodes of the WTF podcast, Sarah talked about how she decided to stay in it despite falling out of love. “Eventually, I guess I just summoned the courage to leave him,” she said.
She continued, “The biggest hardest choices about those kinds of relationships are feeling brave enough to leave, even if you think they’re going to die. Because you stay, not because you’re in love anymore- You love this person, and you’re afraid they’re gonna die if you aren’t there to shore up their base every single solitary day… I just didn’t want him to die.”

Robert‘s drug problems kept spiraling out of control. He was also arrested for possession of heroin, cocaine, and a handgun. It took years before the ‘Zodiac‘ star sobered up and made a comeback.
He married actress and singer Deborah Falconer on May 29, 1992. His drug and legal issues cost him this marriage. Robert later tied the knot with producer Susan Downey in 2005.
Sarah, on the other hand, also moved on with her life. She married actor Matthew Broderick on May 19, 1997.
The couple has twin daughters, born via surrogacy, and a son. She is known for her role as Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO television series Sex and the City (1998–2004). The role has earned her two Emmy Awards and four Golden Globe Awards.
