Britney Spears is never away from the limelight. Other than her musical talent, Spears has found many ways to grab attention and make headlines over the past few years. Though her career is considered fairly successful, Spears struggles with a stable personal and romantic life.
The romance drama with Justin Timberlake and her problematic relationship with almost all of her family members are some of the chief reasons why Spears is rarely at peace. With many concerned over her mental health, an old friend of hers has now opened up about a huge regret she harbors.
Melissa Joan Hart Says She Regrets Taking An Underage Britney Spears To A Club
Melissa Joan Hart has been an old and loyal friend to the music star Britney Spears, and was also the first one to have introduced her to clubbing. The two share a bond since the days of their youth, when the pop star was yet to discover the glitz and glory if Hollywood, let alone be a part of it.
Spears was 17 when Hart, 23 at the time, became friends with her. They were initially introduced when Hart starred in Britney’s music video for ‘(You Drive Me) Crazy‘. Hart said the bond between the two grew stronger when the worked and then promoted it together.
“Britney and I got to do a lot of press together. And we had a lot of fun together during this time,” Hart said during an interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I saw that she was just surrounded by people, never able to break free. And I was like, ‘Hey want to come?'”
Hart further said that she did not give the proposal a second thought as it was a norm for her to “go to a club every night”. “I love dancing and I loved going out, but I also knew to be responsible and, like, when to stop,” she said.

Melissa Joan Hart said it was much later that she realized that Britney Spears was underage when she first took her clubbing — not knowing that it would become a huge problem for the star in the future.
“She was underage and young and — but I [was] just like, ‘Let’s go out. We’re just gonna go out and have some fun.’ And yeah — and I feel really guilty about that still to this day because I should have known better, being a big sister,” Hart said during the interview.
Britney Spears has had a long struggle with mental health problems, one of which also constituted her addiction to clubbing around 2000. The pop star was put under a strict conservatorship of her father after she had a public breakdown in late 2007 and early 2008.
The conservatorship also led to a radical #FreeBritney movement after which she was freed of it in 2021. However, the star still continues to make headlines for her controversial statements and behavior in public spaces as well as social media.
