Nicolas Cage’s Ex Christina Fulton Speaks Out After Son Weston’s Arrest

After turning himself in, Nicholas Cage‘s son Weston Cage, was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 10, at the 77th division station in Los Angeles. Per police records, he was later freed on a $150,000 bond.

On Thursday, Fulton, 57, released a statement, saying, “On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help.”

“When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries,” she alleged, adding, “Despite my desperate pleas to the responding police officers to detain him for a mental-health evaluation, the police officers refused my request.”

The arrest on Thursday was directly connected to the April 28 incident, according to the Los Angeles Police Department, which told PEOPLE that Weston and his mother Christina Fulton got into a verbal argument at her Los Angeles residence before it turned physical.

“During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury. LAPD responded, and after meeting with all parties, a police report was completed,” police said.

The case was brought before the district attorney’s office on May 10, as per the LAPD. On June 26, the District Attorney filed two charges of assault with a deadly weapon against Weston, and shortly after, an arrest warrant was issued.

“As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s ongoing mental-health crisis,” Fulton said in her Thursday statement. “It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs.”

In 2017, Weston—who has struggled with substance abuse in the past—was arrested in Los Angeles for a DUI and a hit-and-run. Two years prior, he told PEOPLE in an open letter, “It got to the point where people thought I was digging my grave.”
