What Was The Feud Between Scarlett Johansson And Disney?
Scarlett Johansson got her solo superhero film with ‘Black Widow‘ after playing the titular character in several films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was originally slated to release in the summer of 2020.
However, its release was pushed three times because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was finally released in June 2021 simultaneously in theatres as well as on Disney+ with premium access.
Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney stating that the simultaneous release breached her contract which mentioned that the film will exclusively run in the theatres. She also alleged that it prevented her from getting any extra bonus from box-office profits.
In response, Disney said that her lawsuit was an indifference to the “horrific and prolonged” effects of the pandemic; they also revealed her $20 million salary. In September of the same year, they resolved their dispute without unveiling the details.

Johansson Talks About The Lawsuit
In an interview with Variety, Johansson recalls Disney’s aggressive response to her lawsuit. “I was sad and disappointed. But mostly sad,” she said. “It was such a surreal moment because we were all isolated and just sort of emerging a little bit. I was also really heavily pregnant, too, which in a weird way was amazing timing.”
She added, “Suddenly, your entire attention is drawn to this miracle of life. So, I had the most wonderful distraction in the world and soon after had a beautiful baby.”
Earlier, the ‘Under the Skin‘ actress said that she is done with superhero films and won’t be returning to the MCU.
