Johnny Depp‘s most impressive performance as Jack Sparrow in the beloved ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ franchise was marred by the long legal battle that he found himself mired in. His fans have long been awaiting for the star to step back into his iconic role, and with discussions around ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ 6 rife, there’s a potential chance for Johnny Depp’s return.
Depp was dropped from his role in the film after the domestic violence accusations and the legal battle that ensued. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently opened up about the upcoming installment of the film and has confirmed that the film would be a reboot project. The producer has always been supportive of Depp and has also been vocal about his desire to see the actor reprise his famous role. Here’s what he said in reiteration of his wishes.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer Says He Would Prefer To Recast Johnny Depp For ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’
The production company behind the ‘Pirates of the Carribean‘ franchise, Disney was quick to sever ties with Johnny Depp after Amber Heard’s accusations against him. However, the producer of the film, Jerry Bruckheimer has consistently championed the idea of Depp’s return to the franchise.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the producer said that he would be more than happy to have Depp back as Jack Sparrow. “If it was up to me, of course. I love having Depp. He’s a great actor and good friend… I’ve certainly spoken to him, but we’ll see what happens,” the producer said.
He also confirmed that has had conversations with the actor about the same, even though there has been no conclusive point to it. He further added that fans may have to wait to find out what happens as the decision still hangs in the air.

Johnny Depp Has Not Entirely Closed The Doors On Reprising His Role As Jack Sparrow
This is not the first time that producer Jerry Bruckheimer has expressed his will to get Johnny Depp on board the franchise again. In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter in December 2022, he said, “I would love to have him in the [sixth] movie.” He contended that Depp is a “terrific actor” and lamented how “unfortunate that personal lives creep into everything we do.”
While Depp does not seem quite enthusiastic about joining Disney after the fallout, he has not entirely shut the door on a possible return as Jack Sparrow. An insider source earlier told PEOPLE that Depp would consider coming back “if it’s the right project.”
The current Pirates project is confirmed to be a full reboot, as Bruckheimer revealed in a March interview with ComicBook.com. He emphasized that a reboot simplifies production logistics since “you don’t have to wait for certain actors.”
there are rumors about certain actors being in line to be the new cast of the film, with Ayo Edebiri of ‘The Bear’ fame rumored for a leading female role and Austin Butler of ‘Dune 2′ tipped as the new lead. With no official confirmation, fans will have to wait to find out more about the film and Depp’s return in it.
