“I’m Not Here To Answer For Anybody”: Why Lily-Rose Will Not Comment On Her Dad Johnny Depp’s Defamation Case

Model Lily-Rose has refused to speak of her father, Johnny Depp, and his ex-wife Amber Heard’s defamation case. While promoting her upcoming HBO series ‘The Idol‘, she explained why she refrains from giving a statement. It has been six months since her father won the Depp vs Heard trial and regained his once-lost status. Many celebrities had spoken against or for both the actors. Amber had come to much ridicule during the trial. However, Johnny’s own daughter has denied commenting on one of the most controversial cases of the year.

The 23-year-old seems to be following in the footsteps of her father in the acting industry. Lily started her career with the horror-comedy film ‘Tusk’ in which she played a small role of a clerk. Now the actress has a series coming in 2023 in which she will star beside the singer The Weeknd. The trailer made the forthcoming series rank as HBO’s highly anticipated drama. Besides talking about her struggles as a star kid, Lily-Rose also revealed why she chooses to remain hushed up about her father’s dramatic trial.

Lily-Rose Depp’s Decision To Stay Silent During Johnny Depp’s Trial

Lily-Rose Depp had suddenly gone cold on social media when her father sued Amber Heard in April for defamation he endured from her domestic violence piece for the Washington Post. She did not post on media platforms for the duration. While the court held a very public trial which opened up the intricate details of Johnny’s and the ‘Aquaman‘ actress’ relationship, Rose remained silent on the trial. Soon she was condemned by Johnny’s fans on Twitter for not making any public statements to support him. However, some fans came to her rescue by defending her silence. A comment read, “She doesn’t owe you ANYTHING and she doesn’t need to do ANYTHING… stop harassing her.” Another said, “Ignore the hate love. We know you support your dad, not everything has to be so public.”

The Pirates of The Caribbean’ actor in the trial revealed that his ex-wife, Amber Heard, and his daughter, Lily-Rose were not on the best of terms. It was the reason why Lily-Rose did not attend their wedding even. Though she remained silent throughout the trial, she did post on Instagram in 2016 supporting her father, “My dad is the sweetest, most loving person I know, he’s been nothing but a wonderful father to my little brother and I, and everyone who knows him would say the same.”

    Lily-Rose Explains Her Silence

Lily-Rose, in a conversation with Elle, talked about her childhood, growing up as a star kid and struggling with the stigma attached to it, and her experience with the new series. While having a discourse over all this she also revealed why she refuses to speak on the defamation trail or any other trending news related to her father.

She said, “When it’s something that’s so private and so personal that all of a sudden becomes not so personal…I feel really entitled to my secret garden of thoughts.” The actress further explained, “I also think that I’m not here to answer for anybody, and I feel like for a lot of my career, people have really wanted to define me by the men in my life, whether that’s my family members or my boyfriends, whatever. And I’m really ready to be defined for the things that I put out there.”

The actress seems to want to make an identity independent from her mother and father’s fame. Stars born rich have been targeted many times for struggle-free life. Celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Hailey Beiber have been belittled for opportunities being handed down on a silver spoon. Looks like Lily-Rose doesn’t want to join the nepotism club and wants to make her own name. That’s why she must have commented, “The internet cares a lot more about who your family is than the people who are casting you in things. Maybe you get your foot in the door, but you still just have your foot in the door. There’s a lot of work that comes after that.”
