The fourth song on her new album is an emotional ballad about adoring, envying, and obsessing over another woman.

She describes a “dazzling starlet, Bardot reincarnate” in the lines, describing her as having “skin like puff pastry” and “eyes white as daisies.” She later continues, “Ooh, I care, I care, I care / Like perfume that you wear, I linger all the time / Watching, hidden in plain sight / And ooh, I try, I try, I try / But it takes over my life, I see you everywhere / The sweetest torture one could bear.” referring to Lacy, whom she can’t help but think about.

In the last few words of her song, she perfectly expresses her feelings: “Lacy, oh, Lacy / I just loathe you lately / And I despise my jealous eyes and how hard they fell for you / Yeah, I despise my rotten mind and how much it worships you.”

This isn’t the first time she has written about enviously admiring another woman. In her debut album ‘Sour’, she sang about a “blonde girl,” saying, “She’s everything I’m insecure about.” It later surfaced that the line might be a jab at Sabrina Carpenter, who went on to date Joshua Bassett, who was a big inspiration in a lot of the songs for ‘Sour’.

    What Is Lacy About?

Rodrigo refers to Lacy as a “starlet” in these lyrics and compares her appearance to Brigitte Bardot, one of the most well-known and stunning models of the 1950s and 1960s. She sings about the agony that comes with loving ‘Lacy’.

However, it’s not clear if Lacy is a fictional person or someone who actually inspired Olivia to write the song. Or it might also be that she wrote the song from someone else’s point of view, as her idol Taylor Swift and her friend Conan Gray have frequently done.

Fans on social media had a different take on the song. Many viewed it as a coming-out song, while others just saw it as envious admiration.

Some even speculated that it might be about Taylor Swift.

While many called it a coming out song.

Meanwhile, many others had to say that Sabrina Carpenter might be the inspiration behind ‘Lacy’.

Rodrigo hasn’t yet spoken about any of the meanings behind her songs, yet.
