Olivia Wilde’s upcoming movie, ‘Don’t Worry Darling,‘ stars her boyfriend, the pop singer Harry Styles, and the ‘Little Women,‘ actress, Florence Pugh. The first trailer of the much-anticipated movie was dropped in May. Styles’ fans reacted with much positivity and enthusiasm as they saw their favorite singer in intense scenes with the actress.
The trailer gave a sneak peek of make-out and sex scenes between Harry and Florence, which ended up being the most talked about element of the trailer amongst the ‘Harries,’ as Harry Styles’ fans call themselves. Florence Pugh showed her disapproval of it and slammed the fans for focusing only on ‘sex scenes.’
Florence Pugh Slams Harry Styles Fans For Reducing The Movie To Only Sex Scenes
Florence addressed the much old and heavy commotion which has followed the 26-year-old Brit actor and former One Direction member since May after the trailer revealed the ‘steamy’ scenes between the two. Pugh explained in her recent Harper’s Bazaar cover story, “When it’s reduced to your sex scenes, or to watch the most famous man in the world go down on someone, it’s not why we do it. It’s not why I’m in this industry. Obviously, the nature of hiring the most famous pop star in the world, you’re going to have conversations like that.”
The trailer specifically had two scenes where the fans could discern that the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer is performing oral sex on the ‘Black Widow’ actress. While Pugh understood that this is what working with a pop singer would bring along, she also added, “That’s just not what I’m going to be discussing because [this movie is] bigger and better than that. And the people who made it are bigger and better than that.” Pugh wants the audience to see the entirety of the movie, its elements, and plot, rather than reduce it to merely a few pleasure-seeking scenes.
Olivia Wilde Intentionally Used ‘Sex Scenes’ In The Film
While talking with Vogue, the filmmaker, Olivia Wilde, shared that the erotic thrillers ‘Fatal Attraction‘ and ‘Indecent Proposal‘ were her inspiration while making ‘Don’t Worry Darling.’ She said, “Those movies are ‘really sexy, in a grown-up way. I kept saying, ‘Why isn’t there any good sex in film anymore?’” She also said that she hopes her audience will “realize how rarely they see female hunger, and specifically this type of female pleasure.” Therefore, Wilde didn’t miss a chance of incorporating her psychological thriller with ‘good’ sex scenes.
The movie, which is set to be released on September 23, is about Alice, played by Pugh, who is a 1950s housewife, happily married to Jack, played by Harry Styles. However, things turn upside down as Alice realizes that her utopian-esque world is full of loopholes and secrets.
