Brendan Fraser Talks About The Message Of ‘The Whale’
Fraser made a powerful comeback this year after a long sabbatical from acting. His performance as an obese man in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological drama ‘The Whale‘ was well received.
In an interview with Page Six, ‘The Mummy‘ actor talked about the important message of his comeback film. “It’s about kindness and empathy,” he said. ”We live in a cynical world and this film is the antidote”.
He further added, “It’s easy and cheap to be cynical, it doesn’t take much intelligence at all, but to act with authenticity and dignity, that’s where the real work is.” The actor also said that we live “in times where it’s so easy to be cruel”.
Fraser said he could connect with his character in the film because of his eldest son, Griffin, who has autism. “He just turned 20. He’s a big kid, he’s 6-foot-5. He’s got big hands and feet, a big body. I understand intimately what it is to be close to a person who lives with obesity,” he said.
Sadie Sink Hadn’t Seen Any Fraser Film
Sink is known for her performance in Netflix’s popular series ‘Stranger Things‘. She plays Fraser’s estranged daughter in ‘The Whale.’ However, she hadn’t seen any of his films until she was cast in the film.
“To be honest, I hadn’t seen any of his films. I didn’t grow up with his films,” the 20-year-old actor said. “Of course, now I’ve seen all of them.” She was asked about her favorite from his filmography.
“I love ‘School Ties”, she said. “I think Brendan is brilliant in it”. ‘The Whale’ premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 4. It is slated to be released in the United States on December 9.
