As reported by Variety, Lopez filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday. The whirlwind romance of the couple was brought back two decades after their first high-profile relationship in the early 2000s. Here’s how the deal was finally sealed.

Jennifer Lopez has finally filed for divorce from Ben Affleck in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing the separation date as April 26, 2024. The singer did so without the help of a lawyer, as she represented herself in the matter.
It is not yet confirmed whether or not there is a prenuptial agreement, with TMZ sources claiming that there isn’t any. A source close to Lopez, while speaking to PEOPLE, said, “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken.”
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, also popularly known as “Bennifer“, ruled the tabloids for a long time for their oscillating love story. In 2022, with their unexpected reunion, the couple sparked hopes for their romance in their fans’ hearts. Soon after, they got married in a hasty ceremony in Las Vegas in July 2022 and celebrated it again in Georgia with a lavish marriage ceremony in August.
Recent reports, however, indicated that things were not all rosy in paradise. Sources close to the lovebirds disclosed that the two had been living separately for months, having sold their Beverly Hills mansion. Lopez fueled the speculations even further when she let it slip that her summer ‘This Is Me…Live‘ tour would not go ahead this May because she was “heartsick and devastated.”

Affleck and Lopez first met in 2001 on the set of the film ‘Gigli‘, wherein they played the roles of two felons caught up in the same job. Their on-screen chemistry on the film’s set bled into real life, as the public was wholly enamored with the couple. Engaged in 2002, they called off their September 2003 wedding and officially split just months later.
Of course, both stars moved on to marry others— Affleck to Jennifer Garner, and Lopez to Marc Anthony. But the two ultimately found their way back to each other in 2021. The second chance they took at love has also sadly reached its end.
