After a long legal battle, Johnny Depp resorted to painting to vent his pent-up emotions. The actor is back with a new set of art and this time it is a self-portrait. The impressive artwork is up to be sold as a time-limited edition. And a part of the money is also going to be contributed to aiding mental health.
This is not the first time that ‘The Tourist’ actor is presenting his artwork to the world. Earlier in 2022, Depp debuted through an art collection that sold out immediately. Through a press release, the actor shared how creating the painting was a means of creative healing to the artist. Here’s more about the self-portrait and how the art was born.

Johnny Depp’s Self-Portrait Named Five
It was on July 20th that Johnny Depp’s self-portrait was debuted by Castle Fine Arts. The artwork was named ‘Five’ which is symbolic of the number of years he was tackling the legal battle. “When I felt the need to write basically the counting down of the years, essentially I just wrote ‘Five’ on there because I was just entering the fifth year of … the madness,” the actor shared in a video interview regarding the self-portrait.
The portrait will be sold for thirteen days and is priced at $1950. Of the earnings, $200 from each portrait will be contributed to Mental Health America, a community-based non-profit organization focused on mental health problems. The ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ actor “immersed himself in creating the work as a means of creative healing” in 2021.
The self-portrait was inspired by Depp’s photograph which was taken in 2015 by photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino for the Christian Dior Perfumes photoshoot. The artist explained in the video that the work was done in Ralph Steadman’s studio.

Johnny Depp Is Healing Through Art
In the years that Johnny Depp painted his works, he was losing major film roles, and in legal battles with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. “This self-portrait — it was created at a time that was … let’s say a bit dark, a bit confusing. I looked at it and I don’t know why, I thought it needed something else. It needed further … information,” the ‘Pirates of Caribbean Sea’ actor said.
Depp in the video also mentioned the brand Dior for sticking with him and working with him in recent years. The actor and the brand joined hands for the first time in 2015. And in May, the actor signed a new deal with Dior worth $20 million in May this year.
