Judi Dench has had a triumphant journey in Hollywood for over six decades, making her mark in the industry with various memorable characters that continue to be iconic even now. After a quite glittering career on stage and on screen, the actress has now revealed her plans of retirement.
Dench, who was last seen in a Channel 5 documentary on her life, talked about how her health concerns have driven her to take the decision to exit Hollywood.

Here’s Why Judi Dench Is Exiting Hollywood
Actress Judi Dench has hinted that her declining vision is the reason she has stepped away from acting. When a reporter asked Dench about her future acting intentions over the weekend at the Chelsea flower show, she responded saying, “No, no, I can’t even see!”
“Our book has come out [Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent], we’re going to Cheltenham book fair and then I’m going to do three shows with Gyles Brandreth,” Dench added, indicating that she indeed has other projects in the works.
Dench, 89, has been suffering from age-related macular degeneration since 2012, something that, as she has confessed before had affected how she worked. Speaking about how it affected her working on set she had said before, “It’s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.”

Judi Dench’s Career
At 89, Judi Dench has, to her name, a number of triumphant roles on screen and stage that she will be remembered for, forever. Films like, ‘Shakespeare in Love,’ for which she received an Oscar, and eight ‘James Bond‘ films are among her notable credits. In addition, Dench has had a long and incredibly successful career on stage, taking home eight Oliviers and a Tony. Among TV series’ she has worked on ‘A Fine Romance,‘ with her late husband Michael Williams, and the sitcom ‘As Time Goes By‘, starring Geoffrey Palmer.
Despite her vision, she continued working, explaining, “I have an irrational fear of boredom. That’s why I now have this tattoo that says carpe diem. That’s what we should live by.”
Her last role on screen was ‘Spirited’ in 2022. As of now, she has not talked about returning to the screen or stage.
