Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos have been married for more than 20 years, and they still make us drool with their love and devotion to one another. They initially caught eyes when Consuelos auditioned for the role of Mateo Santos, who would later become Ripa’s character Hayley Vaughan’s on-screen boyfriend, but their relationship hasn’t changed much in real life too.

Kelly Ripa And Mark Consuelos: The Meet-Cute
After meeting on the soap opera set, Consuelos and Ripa secretly started dating. In a 2014 interview with HuffPo Post, Consuelos said, “I thought she was adorable, hot and sexy and all that stuff. But I was very focused — I didn’t really think I had a chance with her, so I wasn’t really focused on that.”
Soon after getting to know one another, the pair realized they were soulmates. Consuelos proposed to his girlfriend over a date night in 1996 that included pizza and wine, and the two immediately took off for Las Vegas to elope.
Ripa and Consuelos had their first child, Michael, a year after getting married. They then had two more kids, daughter Lola and son Joaquin, in 2001 and 2003, respectively. When their children eventually left for college, the couple discussed the advantages and disadvantages of having an empty nest.
The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in May 2021, where Ripa shared a romantic collage of photos from their wedding and other milestone anniversaries. The couple continues to set an example that not all Hollywood marriages end in divorce, some can have an adorable meet cute, and happy ending.
Kelly Ripa Talks About Passing Out During Sex
Kelly mentioned in her upcoming book that she passed out during sex due to large cysts in her ovaries. She was in the emergency room when she became conscious again. “My eyes shift between the fuzzy images on the screen, the remnants of my ovarian tormentor, and Mark happily snacking away,” she wrote in an excerpt shared by Haute Living.
She continued, “Sex can be so traumatic I think, and yet one of us is completely undaunted. There he is, happily munching on the saltines now and ordering a second apple juice. Mark could be at a movie, or a spa. Instead, I’m flat on my back wondering when the other two cysts will burst.”
The 1997 ER visit she describes in the chapter, ‘Long-Winded Short Stories,’ has a humorous undertone as well. According to Haute Living, Consuelos, who is most known for playing a bad guy on the TV show ‘Riverdale,’ dressed his unconscious wife for the ride to the hospital in a French-cut leotard and red Manolo Blahniks, also known as “fuck me shoes.”
Ripa recounted her allegedly traumatic experience by saying, “Here is my husband, who is, dare I say, stylish, well-dressed at all times, and yet he dressed me like a dime store prostitute in my time of need. It’s still baffling to me to this day that this is the best costume for the day that he could find for me, to the point where, when I was on the stretcher, I thought I was dreaming; I was having a nightmare. I didn’t realize I had come to.”
