Both Drake and Kendrick Lamar have hogged ample limelight lately because of their infamous rap beef. However, the feud between them has been suspiciously quiet lately. While fans of the two hip-hop stars have been eagerly awaiting the next blow in their rivalry, Kendrick Lamar has seemingly decided to shift his focus to something far more uplifting.
Lamar made a surprise appearance at Compton College on Saturday, where he delivered an inspiring commencement address to the class of 2024. A native of Compton, Lamar made some inspiring statements during the event. Here’s what he said.
Kendrick Lamar Asks Students To Be Proud Of Compton
Kendrick Lamar spoke from the heart while delivering a commencement speech at Compton College on Saturday. The rapper, who has recently been in the headlines for delivering some sharp disses against his rival Drake, offered words of wisdom and encouragement to the graduates.
“I wanted to come out here just to tell y’all how much I appreciate y’all,” Lamar began. “I’m proud of the city of Compton, I’m proud of Compton College, most importantly I’m proud of the graduates out here,” he said.
Lamar knows a thing or two about overcoming adversity, as he has faced several challenges that the graduates may be facing at their age. “I know what it takes. You had a lot of hardship, not only in your house, in your communities, but most importantly, within yourself, and that’s the toughest thing to overcome,” Lamar said.
“We still growing day by day, brick by brick, making sure that we develop, not only in physical form but in the spiritual as well,” he said.

Kendrick Lamar Praises His GenZ Crowd For Their “Heart And Courage”
Throughout his speech, Kendrick Lamar spoke about the virtues of his hometown Compton. He urged the graduates to be proud of their degree, their alma mater, and their city. “Seeing y’all out here, it is not only a representation of the world, but it’s a representation of me,” he said. “When I walk out in these cities, in these countries, I can be proud and say, ‘This is where I’m from.'”
Addressing his Gen Z crowd, Lamar also spoke about the criticism the generation receives. He praised their “heart” and “courage to be independent thinkers“, while also encouraging them to apply the lessons they’ve learned.
“Now it’s all about taking these resources and taking what you learned and applying. It’s as simple as that,” the 17-time Grammy winner remarked. “You’ll have hardships, you gonna have tribulations as you had coming up here, but guess what? You have someone special in your corner and all around you and that’s God, period. Every step of the way,” he said.
Surprisingly, Lamar did not reference anything from his ongoing feud with Drake during the event.
