Marilyn Monroe Estate Defends Ana de Armas, Say, “We Can’t Wait To See The Film”
As viewers expressed their disappointment and outrage over the casting of Ana de Armas, the official Marilyn Monroe Estate came to her defense. Marc Rosen, the president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate, said, “Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history. Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity, and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”
The film is not authorized by the estate but they extended their support for the casting.
Armas Shared How Hard It Was For Her To Practice The Accent
Talking with The Times of London, Armas shared that she worked on her accent for ‘Blonde‘ for over a year. Before the filming started, Armas was training with a dialect coach. “It took me nine months of dialect coaching, and practicing and some ADR sessions [to get the accent right]. It was a big torture, so exhausting. My brain was fried.”
In 2020, talking with Vanity Fair Armas shared how groundbreaking it was for her to be a Cuban and be selected for the role of Marilyn Monroe. “I only had to audition for Marilyn once and Andrew said ‘It’s you,’ but I had to audition for everyone else. The producers. The money people. I always have people I needed to convince. But I knew I could do it,” said Armas. “Playing Marilyn was groundbreaking. A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe. I wanted it so badly. You see that famous photo of her and she is smiling in the moment, but that’s just a slice of what she was really going through at the time.”
‘Blonde,‘ which reimagines the life chronicles of Marilyn Monroe, from her near-orphaned childhood to suffocating stardom, will also debut in competition at the Venice Film Festival.
