“We Were And Still Are Heartbroken”: Matthew Perry’s Family Is Looking Forward To ‘Justice’ After Arrests In His Death Case

On 15 August 2024, federal authorities made five arrests in the drug investigation related to Matthew Perry‘s demise. It was stated that the accused are part of a “broad underground criminal network” that supplied ketamine to the Friends actor. In response to the arrests, Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison said that his family is looking forward to justice and is grateful to the federal officers for their exceptional work.

Out of the people charged, two were licensed doctors. Several charges were laid against Jasveen Sangha, or ‘The Ketamine Queen’. Perry’s autopsy revealed lethal levels of ketamine in the actor’s blood. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated the arrested took advantage of Perry’s addiction problem and administered the drug to him.

‘Dateline’ correspondent, Keith Morrison, expressed his gratitude towards the federal authorities who made the arrests relating to Matthew’s death. “We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew’s death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously,” Morrison stated. Attorney Estrada stated that Jasveen Sangha and Dr. Salvador Plascencia, a licensed physician, among others arrested, took advantage of Perry’s substance abuse.

Perry was undergoing ketamine therapy for depression and anxiety. The autopsy reported ketamine overdose as the cause of death. At first, Perry’s death was ruled out as accidental. However, the LAPD along with federal authorities started investigating the source of the ketamine Perry consumed. Erik Fleming and Dr. Mark Chavez were separately charged for distributing ketamine. Morrison stated, “We’re hoping unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message.”

Keith Morrison related his family’s journey dealing with Perry’s death on Hoda Kotb’s podcast soon after the arrests were made. He stated, “As other people have told me hundreds of times, it doesn’t go away. It’s with you every day. It’s with you all the time, and there’s some new aspect of it that assaults your brain.”

The ‘Dateline’ correspondent revealed that Perry’s death has not been easy for the ‘Friends’ actor’s mother. Morrison married Suzzane Perry in 1981. “Toward the end of his life, they were closer than I’ve seen them for decades,” Morrison added. The Canadian journalist revealed that Perry said that he was happy before passing away. “He hadn’t said that for a long time. So it’s a source of comfort.” Morrison added, “But also he didn’t get to have his third act, and that’s not fair.”
