According to a legal filing obtained by People, Matthew Perry’s will indicates that the majority of his belongings will be placed in the ‘Alvy Singer Living Trust’, named after Woody Allen’s character Alvy Singer in ‘Annie Hall‘.
Alvy Singer is a depressed young boy who won’t do his homework because, as he explains to his doctor: “The universe is expanding…. Well, the universe is everything, and if it’s expanding, someday it will break apart, and that will be the end of everything.”
Created in 2009, the will also designates Perry’s father John Perry and mother Suzanne Morrison as trust beneficiaries, along with half-sister Caitlin Morrison and Rachel Dunn. Interestingly, Perry specified in his will that any children, of which he had none, would not be entitled to access his estate.
The filing further discloses that Perry had over $1 million in personal property when he died. Moreover, his executors, Lisa Ferguson, and Robin Ruzan, have already been placed in the living trust. Mike Myers’ ex-wife and the executive producer of the game show ‘Celebrity Liar‘, Ruzan also serves as one of the executors. Perry had appeared on the show in 2010.

Matthew Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at his Los Angeles home. A subsequent autopsy report revealed that his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine, listing drowning, coronary artery disease, and buprenorphine effects as contributing factors.
The death was ruled accidental, and the autopsy noted that the ketamine in his system at the time could not be from recent infusion therapy. After his death, his family honored his legacy with a foundation to help drug addicts.
Before his passing, Perry had been open about his struggle with addiction. He has widely shared his journey to sobriety in his 2022 memoir, ‘Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing’. “I wanted to share when I was safe from going into the dark side again,” he told People at the time for a 2022 cover story.
“I had to wait until I was pretty safely sober—and away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction—to write it all down. I was pretty certain that it would help people if I did,” he said.
Perry’s legacy remains closely tied to his iconic role as Chandler Bing on the hit 90s sitcom ‘Friends’.
