It is no secret that the 90s Hollywood beauties had it bad. From being restrained under conservatorship like Britney Spears to being publically humiliated and taken advantage of, each had a traumatic experience. One of these victims happens to be the famous American actress Mena Suvari. Her journey to success and fame came at the cost of living a saddened personal life. In an explosive interview with The Guardian, she opened up about how she was verbally and sexually abused as a teen.
Suvari talked about being forced into a sexual relationship she didn’t want. Ironically, her harrowing experiences mirror some of her major film roles.

Mena Suvari Talks About Having Forceful Threesome With Her ‘Devil’ Of An Ex
The actress, now 43, initially wrote about the emotional experience in her memoir ‘The Great Peace’ in 2021 but opened up about the topic again in a new interview. Mena recalled being “manipulated” into having threesomes in her former relationship. Claiming that the mystery man was the “devil himself” and would force her to pick up women to have threesomes. Recently she ran into one of the women involved in the act with her and her ex. She shared the details of the interaction and how it was an “eye-opener” for her.
“I said [to the woman], ‘I want you to know that I never wanted to do any of those things,’” the ‘American Beauty’ icon told The Guardian in an interview. “She was surprised. She said, ‘Oh, he told me you wanted to do that.’ It was a huge eye-opener for me, how I was being manipulated and I had no idea. The circumstances had been created for me, and I was just swallowed up by it,” she added.
The actress went on to claim that she had been coerced into using uncomfortable sex toys by the ex. Mena then often had to seek medical attention after enduring repeated rough anal sex. She dejectedly added, “I was not being loved. I was just a body, a receptacle for his desires.”
The actress wasn’t shy to discuss her turbulent childhood, revealing a horrific experience that also affected her current sexual experiences.
Mena Opens Up About How Drugs ‘Took Over Her Life‘
The 90s actress previously found the confidence to tell the world about her “addiction to meth” in her memoir. The Hollywood star began dabbling in substance abuse after being brutally “raped by her brother’s friend” when she was just 12 years old. The ‘Paradise Cove‘ star admitted she allowed meth to “take over her life” during her high school days. She would sneak her fix during class breaks.
Looking back on her younger years, Mena mourned the fact she “never got the opportunity to discover” herself sexually. She said she cannot imagine what it would have been like to have “dated throughout high school and then decided to consensually lose your virginity to one another.” The Six Feet Under alum added: “That sounds so beautiful to me. All of that was lost for me.”
She also said the sexual abuse she had suffered allowed her to “identify” with her characters, especially as protagonist Angela in ‘American Beauty.’ The new mum said: “I identified with Angela. I knew how to play that role, because I was so schooled in it.”
Mena finally found happiness after marrying her husband Michael Hope in 2018. The couple welcomed their first child together, a son named Christopher Alexander Hope, in April 2021.
