‘Mortal Kombat‘ was released in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic. It was released in the theatres as well as on HBO Max. Considering the situation of its premiere, the movie did exceptionally well. It was even crowned the most-watched new movie premiered on HBO Max for 2021. A sequel is in the plans, and Hiroyuki Sanada wants his character, Scorpion, to return for the next movie.
Neither the plot nor the cast has been revealed yet. The story is still in its early production, with no announcement of a possible release date. The screenplay is overseen by Jeremy Slater, who was also the screenwriter of ‘Moon Knight.’
Hiroyuki Sanada Shares Why He Wants Scorpion To Return For ‘Mortal Kombat 2’
When asked about the sequel of ‘Mortal Kombat,’ Hiroyuki told ComicBook.com, “I have no idea, I didn’t hear anything officially yet. But, I hope they’ll make a Scorpion part, and I will get to say ‘Get over here!’ again.” All in all, Sanada wants to relive his ‘Get over here again!‘ moment.
Another character that the fans terribly missed in ‘Mortal Kombat‘ was the master of the Shadow Kick, Johnny Cage. His arrival was also teased at the end of the movie. Sanada added more to the tease when asked who would play the role of Cage. He said, “That’s a good question. I have no idea yet, but maybe one of the assassins from ‘Bullet Train’.”
‘Bullet Train‘ directed by David Leitch will release in theatres on August 5. The movie stars Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Perhaps one of them could be the possible actors for the role of Johnny Cage.
WWE Superstar Mike ‘The Miz’ Mizanin Is Contesting For The Role Of Cage
Mike Mizanin’s physique and built are similar to the character of Johnny Cage. He shared that he’s been training for the role just in case he gets lucky enough to get the call. Talking on Ryan Satin’s ‘Out of Character‘ podcast, he said that he saw his name trending worldwide when Cage did not make an appearance on ‘Mortal Kombat.’ “I have been working on my splits. I’ve been working on my kicks. As soon as I saw that Mortal Kombat was out and there was no Johnny Cage yet and my name was literally trending worldwide No. 1, ‘We want Miz as Johnny Cage,’ I was like, ‘If they want that to happen, I need to basically make sure that I am prepared and ready that if that opportunity presents itself, then I will be ready and focused. I will do everything in my power to hopefully get that part if the opportunity presents itself.”
He also added, “I have an immense work ethic, and whatever it takes, I will be there to try and do it. And if I don’t get it, that’s okay too. But I hope the person that does get it will put in the same amount of work and dedication and give the fans exactly what they want because I know what I want out of Johnny Cage. I really do.”
